History

The Sendai International Music Competition was launched in commemoration of the 400th anniversary of Sendai, marking its first edition in 2001. Building upon the achievement of the 2nd International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians (held in Sendai in 1995), the SIMC developed as an international music competition unique to Sendai while nurturing many talented young musicians.
