1st Prizewinner of the 6th SIMC Piano Section
Highly praised by jurors and audiences, South Korean pianist KIM Hyun Jung has garnered an impressive list of international competition successes. Most recently, she won 1st prize in the 6th Sendai International Music Competition in Japan. Previous successes include 2nd prize and the special Jury Award at the 2010 Paderewski International Piano Competition, the grand-prix at the 2010 KBS Music Competition (where she was the youngest of all competitors), 1st prize in the 2008 Asia Chopin International Piano Competition, and 2nd prize at the 2008 Taipei International Chopin Piano Competition. Additionally, she has been a top prize winner at the 2011 Seoul International Piano Competition, the 2010 Rhodes International Piano Competition, and the 2009 Hamamatsu International Piano Competition in Japan.
Ms. KIM made her debut as soloist with the Seoul Symphony at the age of 10. She has since soloed with many other orchestras including the Tokyo Symphony, Sendai Philharmonic, Paderewski Pomeranian Philharmonic, Moldova IASI Philharmonic, Krakow Philharmonic, Kaoshung Symphony, KBS Symphony, Sungnam Philharmonic, Prime Philharmonic, and Suwon Symphony. As a recitalist, Ms. KIM has been presented by Yamaha Artist Service Seoul on several occasions on their rising artist series and by Kumho Cultural Foundation as a recipient of their Young Artist Concert Recital Competition. Her competition accomplishments have resulted in appearances in major international concert halls including the Taipei National Concert Hall, ACT CITY Hamamatsu Main Hall, Hitachi Systems Hall Sendai, Paderewski Philharmonic Hall, Seoul Arts Center and Ishikawa Ongakudo Concert Hall. In addition, her solo and concerto performances have been aired on the radio on KBS 93.1 FM in Korea.
She is currently pursuing her Master’s Degree in Piano Performance at the Peabody Institute of Music as a recipient of a full scholarship under the tutelage of Yong Hi Moon.
