Friedemann Eichhorn is Artistic Director of the Kronberg Academy and professor of violin at the University of Music Franz Liszt in Weimar. He serves as Artistic Director of the International Louis Spohr Competition for Young Violinists in Weimar.

As a violin soloist Friedemann Eichhorn collaborates with many leading orchestras such as the Konzerthausorchester Berlin, the Symphonies of Munich and Hamburg, the Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia di Roma, St. Petersburg Philharmonic, Hong Kong Philharmonic, Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie and many others. He has performed under the baton of Christoph Eschenbach, Sir Antonio Pappano and the late Yehudi Menuhin. A longtime recording artist for Naxos, Hänssler classic and other labels Friedemann Eichhorn has recorded a wide solo and chamber music repertoire on more than 30 CDs, including the world premiere recordings of the 13 violin concertos by Beethoven’s contemporary and co-founder of the French violin school, Pierre Rode. A strong advocate of contemporary music Friedemann Eichhorn has given several world premieres of Fazil Say’s works, including the Violin Concerto No.2 “Spring Mornings in the days of quarantine” and the Violin Sonata No.2 “Mount Ida”. Together with Evgeny Kissin and Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt Friedemann Eichhorn has played the German premiere of Evgeny Kissin’s piano trio. Currently Mr. Eichhorn works on a 5 CD cycle of all works for violin and orchestra by Alfred Schnittke, with the Deutsche Radiophilharmonie and Valentin Uryupin.

Friedemann Eichhorn is a founding member of the Gropius Quartett and the Phaeton Piano Trio. He has studied violin with Valery Gradow at the Mannheim University of Music, with Alberto Lysy at the Menuhin Academy in Switzerland and with Margaret Pardee at the Juilliard School New York. Apart from that he received a PhD in musicology from the University of Mainz, Germany. Friedemann Eichhorn published numerous articles in journals and encyclopedias and edits sheet music of violin works for G. Henle Verlag and Schott Verlag. He as well serves as Artistic consultant for the Henle Library app. Friedemann Eichhorn plays the Jean Baptiste Vuillaume violin “Ex Huberman” from 1856.
